  • Lufthansa Cargo recently transported a fully restored 1972 BMW oldtimer from Prague to Tokyo, where the iconic vehicle will compete in the Islands of Japan Marathon—a 7,000 km rally celebrating automotive history.
  • With only a few hundred models believed to still exist, the vehicle is a prized piece of motorsport heritage.

Lufthansa Cargo recently had the honour of transporting a fully restored 1972 BMW oldtimer from Prague (PRG) to Frankfurt (FRA) and on to Tokyo (NRT), where the vehicle is set to take part in the Islands of Japan Marathon, a 7,000 km rally starting in Sapporo.

“This isn’t just any vintage car. The model was produced in a limited run of only 2,999 units, and today, just 150–300 are believed to still be in running condition across Europe. Painstakingly restored by a private owner, the vehicle represents a rare jewel of motorsport heritage.”

Trusted with the transport, Lufthansa Cargo once again demonstrated its expertise in automotive logistics, a sector where precision, reliability, and care are paramount. From serial production parts to collector classics and prototypes, the carrier supports a wide range of automotive transport needs.

“We’re proud to be trusted with such a unique piece of history,” Lufthansa Cargo said, adding thanks to NX Group (Nippon Express Group) and internal colleagues Jiří Kareš and Martina Smolková for making the project possible.
