Thomas Burger doesn’t come from an aviation family, but a fascination with flight has always been part of his story. As Marketing Director for Environment and Sustainability at Airbus, he’s now helping shape the industry’s path to cleaner skies.

What was your dream job as a child?

Astronaut. I even applied for the ESA astronaut selection last year  – and made it to the top 1,500.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the industry?

The shift from fuel efficiency as a performance bonus to sustainability being a core priority across the value chain.

Best business lesson you’ve learned the hard way?

Don’t get too comfortable. Change is the only constant.

Window or aisle seat?

Window. Always.

Your job in three words?

Translate. Connect. Inspire. 

Best airport in the world, and why?

Changi, for combining seamless travel with greenery and a sense of calm.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation. It would solve the aviation emissions issue right away.

Most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Flying an old Yak-52 over the Alps, with loops and rolls included.

What’s your hidden talent?

I can juggle while balancing on a slackline.

Go-to karaoke song?

Anything by Queen but not sure I’d do it justice.

If you could master one skill instantly, what would it be?

Playing the piano. There’s something timeless about it.

Most memorable moment in air cargo/aviation?

Attending my first major air show as a young engineer and realising I was part of something global
