Marc Oedekoven is an economist and MBA graduate with extensive international leadership experience in logistics and aviation. After management roles with the Lufthansa Group in Frankfurt, Dubai and Singapore, he became Global Head of Air Cargo at Rhenus Logistics. In 2010, he founded KIBIX Logistics GmbH, where he serves as Managing Partner. He later held senior executive roles at IQS Group and Scan Global Logistics and chaired the Logistics Alliance Germany. Oedekoven lectures at several universities, has published on air cargo management, speaks four languages, and is based in Cologne with his family.
What was your dream job as a child?
Hunting Ranger.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever shipped?
An absolutely exciting and unique car which was used for a James Bond production and driven by the Secret Agent himself!.
What’s one buzzword you secretly dislike?
AI because it is misused and misunderstood way too often.

Window! (Out of more than 1000 flown flights, I sat 90% at the window).
What’s the best business lesson you’ve learned the hard way?
Learn from and listen to the best.

A high-quality multi-tool, carried by my wife, a cooking vessel carried by our elder son and a paracord, carried by our younger son.

What’s the best airport in the world, and why?
Munich. Highly efficient, cosy and well-structured and best entertainment offer worldwide: tennis tournament, surf championship, Airport Oktoberfest and Christmas market.
If air cargo had a mascot, what would it be?
A pelican: large pouch, helpful and attentive. It can fly 24 hours nonstop.
How did you get into airfreight/logistics?
I presented the results of my thesis on hub and spoke systems to Lufthansa Cargo at the airport Münster-Osnabrück. They liked it.
What quote has most resonated with you?

Failure is not an option.
